With Finday, CAPTCHAS are history!

reCAPTCHA is Google´s free CAPTCHA service.

Let's be clear from the get-go: CAPTCHAs are annoying, a waste of time and in most cases, a strong blow to the mental health of anyone who has the audacity to try to decipher them. They come in all sizes and colors: distorted letters, displaced or crossed out numbers, even pictures of animals dressed up as words. Unfortunately, despite them being a real nuisance, they are also a necessary evil in the current state of the Internet.

As you may know, a CAPTCHA is a test where the user is asked to type in a set of characters shown as a distorted image. This challenge-response test is used to determine whether the user is human or not, since it is assumed that a computer program could not correctly interpret the sequence. In fact, CAPTCHA is an acronym that stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart". Through this verification system, websites can prevent feared "spambots" from registering as users, participating in surveys or sending spam. Unfortunately, sometimes even Google needs a hand from the dreaded CAPTCHAs to verify whether or not we are "real". The good news is: with Finday, you'll never have to see a single CAPTCHA while searching for information.

Shared IP's and undesirable effects

Different CAPTCHA examples generated with Captcha Creator. The problem with Google's CAPTCHAs has its origin, in the majority of cases, in the use of a single shared IP for Internet access in business settings, a common practice that causes users to experience various types of undesirable effects. When Google detects that many searches are being conducted from the same source, it may think that it's coming from software that automates the analysis of results, and forces us to pass the anti-robot test. Google is programmed to detect several types of "suspicious" behaviors such as brute force attacks aimed at cracking passwords, spam in comments found on Blogger, creating fake user profiles or the conduct of some viruses on the Internet.

Unfortunately, Google is not able to distinguish an IP shared by hundreds of machines connected to a single computer, so in medium and large-sized companies the emergence of CAPTCHAs usually comes as soon as mid-morning and continues until the end of the work day . If the daily work tasks involve quite a number of Internet searches, it's easy to imagine how frustrating the situation can be. Being what it is, it's no surprise that in the end Google has been left with no other choice but to use CAPTCHAs, but that does not make them any less aggravating.

At Finday we have chosen not to use CAPTCHAs, not just because we don't need them nowadays, but to ensure that Internet searching can once again be a quick and enjoyable experience. If you work in a corporate environment and want to get rid of Google's CAPTCHAs while searching on Google, Finday is the solution you've been looking for. And if one day we are forced to using them, it will be because we have had great success: so everybody wins.
